A Celebration of PRIDE: Become Your Authentic Self
My name is Lisa Snow. I am a wife, daughter, sister, athlete, dancer, friend, and the list goes on. My favorite color is green, my favorite dance move is my shoulder pop, my favorite ice cream is chocolate, and my favorite thing to do is laugh. I have a dog, a loving family, amazing friends, and an awesome job. 😉
Did I miss something? Oh… I’m gay! The reason I listed all of those things before revealing my sexual orientation, is because I am proud of who I am as a person in addition to my gay pride. That being said, when I came out when I was 21 years old, I became more confident and was able to enjoy those other things about myself and fully share who I am with everyone in my life.
I wasn’t always unapologetically me
One of the main adjectives I get called when people first meet me or see a video of me is that I am confident. That was not always the case. I have always been the Lisa that I am today, but I wasn’t always comfortable with sharing it and being so unapologetically me.
When you look at my high school year book, I did not get “most likely to be remembered” or “class clown.” I got “best group of friends” with about 4 other girls who I blended in with in my school. I wanted to dance around the halls and say the jokes running through my head, but there was always something inside that stopped me.
When I was in college I came out to myself, followed by coming out to everyone I knew. If any of you know me well, you know that once I have something on my mind, I need to share it. I am an open book! Coming out was the last piece of the dynamic puzzle that is me. I have nothing to hide now, and I have every reason to be proud of who I am.
Strength in Authenticity
Being able to be my authentic self in every aspect of my life is amazing. It gives me strength and confidence in everything I do. I am able to crush a workout and share a dance. I am able to make people laugh and be honest in all situations. I am able to share who I am, but more importantly be present in getting to know who everyone else is.
This pride month, I challenge YOU to be proud of who you are! Look inside and recognize the beauty, strength, love, and confidence within.
Once again, I am Lisa Snow- wife, daughter, sister, friend, dancer, athlete, and a very PROUD Jessie’s Girl… who’s gay… I’m gay! Happy Pride!
