Have you ever had that moment driving in your car when you realize you haven’t had a phone date with your bestie in what seems like months? You think about her often but life happens and you realize that it’s been way too long since you caught up or just called to let her know just how much she means to you.

We have the perfect gratitude to-do for you! Expressing your gratitude for someone not only makes their day a little brighter, but it can do wonders for increasing your own levels of gratitude and happiness.

Soul Pancake, a group that works to discover the “science of happiness,” ran an experiment where they encouraged people to write a letter to a person they were grateful for. Before even sending it off, this exercise increased their levels of happiness from 2% to 4% just by writing it! Incredible.

However, when the same people made a phone call to the person they were thankful for to express their gratitude directly, happiness levels jumped from 4% to 19%.

So today, we’re asking you to spend a few minutes picking up the phone and calling your bestie or a special person in your life for no other purpose but to express your appreciation for them.

Extra credit if you do it for more than one person! If you have kiddos, sneak a handwritten note in their lunch box with a special note to make them smile (30 years later I still remember these :)

Making someone else’s day will undoubtedly make yours. Heck, encouraging you to tackle this gratitude exercise is sure making ours!!
