I can’t believe that we are already a couple weeks into 2017. I feel like I blinked and 2016 was over! But I am so excited to start the new year, and I really want to get the message out to you about loving yourself.

I know what it’s like – it’s the beginning of the year and we feel good and motivated to crush our goals and kick some ass. But, life gets busy, we skip a workout here or there, we forget to track our macros and then start the cycle of feeling guilt. Before you know it, it’s been a couple weeks since you worked out and the shame starts to creep in.

Shame is the little voice inside in your head that is telling you that you aren’t strong enough, confident enough, or consistent enough in your fitness journey. If you only read one thing this year, read this:

YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH.

You are good enough to lift heavy, eat the foods you love, and enjoy the journey.

FITNESS IS A JOURNEY OF HAPPINESS

I never want my Jessie’s Girls feeling guilty, ashamed, or down. If you skip a day of working out, don’t dwell on it. If tracking your macros wasn’t exactly on point one day, you can always get back to it tomorrow.

Working out is about getting results, but it is also about learning to love yourself more with every single rep of deadlifts and squats. You can’t shame yourself into the body you’ve always wanted. It’s a process of getting more and more comfortable with the skin that you’re in, from day 1 to day 365. I know it sounds a little cliche, but early on in the year is the perfect time to remind ourselves that we are all strong, confident women and we don’t need to wait for a body transformation in order to kick some ass.

Here are my three ways to help you get in the habit of showing yourself more LOVE as you begin the year.

THE PATH OF LOVING YOURSELF

Keep a Journal – There’s a lot of research on journaling! From helping with the immune system (yeah that’s right, journaling can help you physically), to allowing yourself to analyze your feelings a bit deeper, journaling is an incredible opportunity where you can get all of your thoughts and ideas on paper without judgement.

Practice Mindfulness – To some of you I know how it sounds, mindfulness is sitting in the corner with your legs crossed, humming in a deep voice for as long as you can. But practicing mindfulness doesn’t have to be like that at all! Mindfulness is just being present with what you are doing and when you are doing it. When you practice mindfulness, you are able to focus on being present, rather than going through the motions and stressing about what you have to do next.

Sleep – We all know that sleep is important, but honestly, do you really get enough? Rather than tackle sleep from a standpoint of, “I need to get more sleep,” get in the habit of creating better sleep environments. Instead of thinking to yourself that you must get to bed by 10:00 p.m. Think to yourself that you are going to begin to wind down at around 9:00 p.m.
